trick to wearing this dress well
I can see why this dress did not sell well. I found that it has a very high waist. BUT if I pull the waist up half way between an empire and my true waist and then drape the fabric over the self-tie belt it looses the "odd-around-the-waist" look that everyone is complaining about and looks cute. With a medium to full bustline, the dress now becomes more sexy than frumpy. The material and color are both great. Well worth the sale price plus I got another 30% off. Thinking of ordering another color, too. It will never be my favorite dress, but a staple addition to the wardrobe.

Nice color, but so much static
I got this dress on sale, so I'm keeping it, but there's no way I would have paid full price. It's cute, and the color is beautiful (pine) and true to the picture on the site. I fixed the problem other reviewers had with the elastic-y waist creating bulge by using a different, wider belt I already had. My biggest problem with this dress is the slip. It is a hair short (about 3-4 inches higher than the hem). Worse, it is the same material as the dress, creating major static. Many dresses have slips that are satiny, or at least a less static-y material, which I think would have been a much better call with this dress. The static is definitely enough to be annoying, even with application of a dryer sheet. I'm hoping this is going to be less of a problem in the summer, when it's more than 50 outside, but it's already April, so I'm not holding my breath.

lovely flowy fit
I got this dress despite the bad reviews because it is such a great price on sale. I could see how some people would have problems with this dress, but it fits me perfectly. I am 5'11", 38DD about 180 and usually wear a 12. I ordered the 12 and it is the perfect looseness without being dumpy. I can see how the cinching on the sides could be unflattering on some -- especially if you are pear shaped.
Honestly, for the price I would take the gamble and try it. Lands End has a great return policy so if it doesn't work you could just return it.

Lots of unneeded fullness.
As a previous reviewer mentioned, the side elastic creates huge billows where none is needed. When I tried it on, there were huge billows above the waist on each side corresponding to the weird elastic gussets. Beautiful color (Pine) but an awkward, unfortuante, unflattering fit.

Looks better on the hanger than on me
This dress was much too long, the waist was too high and I'm short waisted, and just plain looks horrible. It is certainly not bra friendly as the neck is too wide. It was way too long even for a taller person. I wouldn't recommend it to anyone. I was quite disappinted with it from the beginning. It is definitely "green" if you're looking for a green dress.

I thought the dress would be light and feminine, but I think I would have looked better in a paper sack. The ruffles were laughable, the fabric was clingy, and the dress had no shape. I seriously couldn't stop laughing when I tried it on.

Not for the curvy figure of any size.
I agree with ChicoMom. The waist is far too high. I ordered a size 10 which was the correct size, only the cut is very unflattering. To be honest, even on the waif-ish model the dress gives her the appearance of additional volume in the hips which she does not have. I'm sure my (apparently) freakishly huge breasts (34DD-DDD) brought the waist up a bit as well, which didn't help. The curious cinching on the sides of the waist added volume where none was needed. I'm giving the dress two sailboats because the color (Mazarine Blue) is gorgeous and the fabric and construction seem to be of high quality. I honestly don't think this dress would have flattered me when I was a size 2 and a mere 32DD. Lands End, please make something, anything, that will flatter a woman with larger breasts! We are not so rare!

I am thrilled with this dress. I ordered a size 2...I am 5' 6" and have a slim build with narrow shoulders. The dress looks perfect on. I noticed no discrepancies between the size of the dress and the size and length of the slip. It falls just above the knee. The top is cut beautifully and is NOT too low--something that always concerns me. Most of all, I love the deep, brilliant color. I ordered mazarine blue.

LOVE THIS DRESS
This was my Christmas dress this year. I received many complements on it. I am 5'5" and it was just about knee length on me which was perfect. I loved the loose fit with the ribbon belt to cinch at the waste.
