The sturdy polyester shell has a WindCheck® barrier and sealed seams to block wind, snow and other wet stuff. 100-gram polyester insulation adds extra warmth, yet won't weigh you down. Other weather-stoppers include a storm flap over the hidden zipper and adjustable cuffs. A zip pocket with cord port for an MP3 player. For winter?
I bought this parka in the hopes of replacing my old warm but not too warm parka but I wore it outdoors at 45 degrees and was cold. The sleeves have almost no warmth and the parka is not quite long enough to prevent cold rear end. My old parka is just a few inches longer. The cord that adjusts the hood creates an unattractive billow in the middle of the head. I am also not a fan of the gray fleece. The color, red/red orange, is really pretty and I may keep it just because of that.

light weight and warm
I bought this parka just in time for the single digit weather hit our area. It's very light weight and it's not bulky at all. I was nervous about how it can keep me warm with this weather. Surprisingly it does a great job keeping the wind out and keeps me warm.
The petite size fit great on me - I'm 5'3", about 108. The sleeves is just right length, no room to get my hands hide under it (it's petite size) at all. The hood is big, which is nice to cover my head while walking out but cannot wear it while driving of course.
I had the tomato color one, and it's pretty (was worried about it might be too bright, but it turns out looks good on me).

Nice waterproof parka
I bought this in the dark berry in petite S - my usual size. It fits like it was made for me. This includes through the hips, where I take more like a medium. There's enough room for one thick layer underneath, but not really more. I wore it that way tonight, and it was warm and comfortable. The color on my calibrated monitor is quite inaccurate. The jacket is bright fuscia with dark berry panels under the arms - very attractive and slimming. I prefer hook and loop (as here) to snaps. The waistline drawstring is at least 2" above my waist. This is very strange, since it's main purpose is to stop drafts from coming up from underneath the skirt of the jacket. However, this does not cause any problems for me since the jacket fits so well that I wouldn't use the drawstring anyway. What's not to like? There should be a double zipper on a long coat like this, for freedom of movement, for sitting, for the chairlift, etc. Crinkly backing on zipper flap and hood flap is weird, and has not lasted well on some other jackets of mine, but is not too annoying. Incidentally, never alter a waterproof garment. It will leak through the new seams.

drawstring design flaw
The squall jackets from this site have been terribly inconsistent in fit over the past few years. Several of last year's worst fitting problems (too tight in shoulders, bust, and upper sleeves) have been fixed in this model such that arm movement is easy, and the handwarmer pockets are not located right over the breasts (thank goodness!). However, I don't understand why Lands End just can't get waistline drawstrings right. My year-old stadium squall coat has an inner drawstring which doesn't cinch in the outer shell of the coat, so it can't be used to make the coat look more fitted. This coat has a drawstring which is located ONLY in the outer shell, but which is only stitched to it from the contrasting side panel around the back, not in the front (main color) part of the jacket where the drawstring starts, so if you use the drawstring to make the coat look more fitted, the outer part pooches out below the breasts to make it look very odd indeed. Now I could put in a stitching line across the front to make a casing, but why the heck would Lands End make such a big goof in coat after coat? My other parka from their main competitor has a normal drawstring which has a casing stitched around the whole coat to both the lining and outer shell for a much more flattering fit. This coat is much roomier than the regular squall parka, so I might have fit into my usual size (1x), but I've had to upsize many things from Lands End because of the snug fit through the shoulders over the past couple of years, so I ordered a 2x. I don't know how warm it will be but it is very thin and contrary to what another reviewer said, the fuzzy fleece lining in not in the hood, just the upper body and inner collar of the jacket. Like another reviewer, I don't like the velcro closures. The front storm flap and visor on the hood have a funny crunchy texture to them. I haven't decided if I'll keep this or not--the color is nice but having to alter something this pricey in order to wear it just seems wrong!

No hook&loop closures please!
Love the colors, fit, feel and general features of this jacket. Only wish they would have used snaps instead of hook&loop closures at the front and cuffs. The hooked part catches on your other clothes and on garments hung with it in the closet. Otherwise, a good coat.

Fits slim, is waterproof and good for cold rain & wet snow.
The modern styling and colors make a fun jacket. The water & wind proofing with warm lining all over make this practical for spring/fall. I like the pocket allowing ear phone to connect to phone/i pod in pocket. I also liked the 2 invisible cords to adjust the hood (also lined). I gave it 4 stars.This jacket could be improved with zipped side vents and a large pocket in the inside for money purse/wallet. If it had these extra items I would have given it a 5 stars.
