Great pants if you don't have large thighs
Bought the Yaht blue--great color. The fabric is thick and soft, and the pants are really well made--can be dressed up or down. The only problem is the narrowly cut legs (thigh area). I bought my son a size bigger, and still the legs didn't have enough room to be comfortable, but his legs are large. If you have average sized or slender thighs they should fit great.

Why did it change?
I'm a pretty skinny guy, so I dismissed the reviews saying these pants have a low rise without a second thought. My bad.
The new incarnation of the previous Canvas Chinos, besides being more expensive, "sit on hips". Read that well. It says so in the description, which I failed to read and understand. My hips are apparently one inch below where the previous incarnation of these pants would sit. I'm not even sure if these covered either my crevasse or manhood the pants sat so low; they weren't on long enough to know. Bad all around.

Astounding product
Order these pants while you can! They are truly astounding.I am 5'8" at 180 lbs, and these pants make me look 20 lbs thinner, so the fit is very trim, even in the so-called straight fit. The quality is beyond even the custom made chinos I own that cost over a $100. The pant is made with a split waist, so it looks dressier than jeans, or Bonobos chinos. This is what I call a chino clean and well enough styled for work, but casual enough looking for play!

so close to being the perfect pants
I so badly want to like these pants and purchase several pairs. There are so many things that are done right. The material is a nice weight and the pant legs fit nicely without being too tight.
BUT, the one thing that keeps me from purchasing another pair of these pants is the crotch/rise. There just isn't enough there, especially if you want to wear these in an office setting with your shirt tucked in.
Land's End, add about 1.5" to the rise and I'll immediately order 2-3 pairs.

Low rise is too low
I originally tried these in the slim fit and they were skin tight on me, but I really liked the fabric and color options with these chinos so I exchanged them for the straight fit. I was a little worried because they actually look a bit baggy in the photo on the website, but ended up fitting me (6'5'', 185 lbs.) like I would expect a slim fit, or even on the tight side. But as with many of the other reviewers, the biggest problem is the very low rise which makes the pants unwearable for me. It's low enough that wearing with a tucked in shirt looks plain weird, and tucked-in shirt or not, the low rise makes them uncomfortable. I'm disappointed that I had to return them because the fabric is really great.

Not flattering
The sorrel color is great, the fabric is good, the construction is above the pay grade suggested by the price. The rise is too low, however. If you have embarrassingly long, skinny legs and a short little torso, these pants are for you. If you are more classically proportioned, these will make your torso too long and your legs short and stumpy. If you have any hint of pot belly, it will be pronounced, as you cannot hide that with or near your belt. These would be great chinos with another inch or two on the rise -- especially the back rise, as there is not enough fabric back there to cover the waistband of your boxers. As they are, I don't think I could wear them without a jacket or sweater.

Rise is way too low
I own two pairs of Land's End Canvas Heritage Chinos that I purchased last year. I loved one pair so much that I bought a second in a different color. They sit nicely below my waist, right on my hips. I was excited to hear about their new chinos, especially the thick fabric and saturated colors. However I very disappointed with the fit of the Elston 628 Straight Fit. The rise is so low on them that they sit a 1/2" to 3/4" BELOW my hips. Sadly I had to send them back. I had the same problem with the Comer 628 Straight Fit.

Zero room in the crotch
I bought these because they were billed as more refined chinos that were work appropriate. The problem is I can't pull them up enough to tuck a shirt in, which is kind of required to go to an office. The rise is way too low, and there's absolutely no room for a shirt. I double checked to make sure I hadn't been sent the slim ones my accident, but alas these were the straight fit ones. Length and waste were fine.
Overall these pants were consistent with LC's "two steps forward, one step back" track record. For every two things i like there's one thing that disappoints
