Like the best of English shoes
These shoes remind me of the Church's shoes I owned in Asia and wore for years. These are the best shoes I have managed to find in North America for the price and quality.. I am a teacher and wear them all day.

A durable and well-made classic dress shoe
This shoe is amazingly well-made, like all of Allen Edmonds' products. The leather is flawless and sturdy, the sole is firm and solid, the lining leather is not split or shoddy like a less-expensive shoe. It is, in a word, perfect.
I only have two caveats about it - not negatives, but things you need to be aware of. First, the shoe seemed a little narrower than size across the ball of the foot. This is usually not a big deal - I have kind of a wedge-shaped foot, anyway, with a narrow heel. However, with this shoe it has led to a little bit of crowding in the little toe. I'd recommend a seamless sock.
Second, the break-in time is long and somewhat painful. I would very much recommend a sturdy sock and by all means, wear this shoe around the house for a few hours at a time a number of times before you try to go all day with it. Keep a few band-aids in your pocket. That fantastic quality leather is going to take awhile to conform to your foot.
You may wish to try soaking your socks in warm water, putting the shoes on, and "walking them dry" to speed up break-in time. The wet shouldn't hurt a quality leather shoe like this one if you allow it to dry out thoroughly afterwards with cedar shoe trees in place. If this is your first pair of real quality last-made, Goodyear-welted dress shoes, you will be a little surprised and taken aback at the break-in period, but the fact is, these shoes will last the rest of your life with proper care. Unlike the cheap ones often sold today with man-made materials, glued together on an athletic-shoe last, this shoe is a beautiful specimen of the shoemaker's art and it will last a lifetime.
The Allen Edmonds website has great info on shoe construction and lasting so you can pick the pair of Allen Edmonds shoes that best suits your foot shape and needs.

Good Price, Great Shoe
I bought four pairs of these shoes, two black and two brown, at different times. This is not a thin leather shoe. The leather is substantial, with quality workmanship to match. Sizing is just what you'd expect, neither larger nor smaller. I recommend a generous application of neutral shoe cream when you first receive them, to keep the leather supple. One pair I bought had a small imperfection inside the upper heel that bothered me; I exchanged it for another pair with no hassle whatsoever. I am very pleased with my purchases and will buy more Allen Edmonds from Land's End.

Old World Quality
I have the MacNeil WingTip version of this shoe and I have finally found Old World Quality at a decent price. The construction and materials of the Allen Edmonds shoes are fantastic - thick leather, symmetrical left & right shoes (rare), and although they will be stiff at the start, I am confident that they will break in to be an outstandingly comfortable and long lasting pair of shoes.
