Decent quality, but runs large
Contrary to Lilymar's review of 3/29/13, I found these shorts to run quite large in the waist I ordered a 29 and the waist measures approximately 31". The overall fit seems decent - not particularly slim, but it's hard to tell since the waist measurement is so off.
Overall quality seems solid. However, I'd recommend these only if you can try them on in person, since the sizing seems to be so inconsistent.

Measure your waist with the tape flush to your body for these
I bought several sizes because a previous reviewer said that these fit small. I did not find that to be the case. My exact waist measurement (without an extra finger's width) is a 30 and I usually wear tailored fit 31 pants. The 30 waist was the perfect fit for these shorts and had plenty of room in the legs (I am 6'2" and 165 pounds with more weight in the legs as a hiker/biker). All of the other sizes (31, 32, and 34) went from slightly to excessively baggy. Keep in mind that the drawstring attaches only in the front (it doesn't go all the way around the waistband), so you will not be able to tighten it much, and tightening the drawstring a lot also seems to create unsightly bulges and ruffling in what is a pretty rigid fabric, especially along the velcro fly.
I haven't worn them in the water yet, but I do notice that there is no..."support" from the inner lining and the texture isn't as soft inside as I am used to with normal swim trunks. That's the reason for taking off one star, though this might be standard for board shorts, since I have never owned any before.

Nice, but run very small
I bought these for my son. He wears the Land's End tailored fit pants. He's always wears either a size 34 or 36 in pants and shorts (his actual waist size is a 33, but he's big framed and has athletic thighs). I bought the 36, and I had to return the board shorts because they were way too small. If your'e not slender-built, I don't recommend these. If not, they are nice-looking.
